" The statements are referred to by the jurors at judging, and if the work is selected for the exhibition, the statement will also be included in the exhibition catalogue. The statement can be approached in many ways, as evidenced by the examples below. It can give an insight into your artwork in terms of inspiration, subject matter, materials, or technique, and/ or give a more general insight into your practice. It can take any format that you feel best represents you as an artist. "
" For me, being an artist is one hat of many. I associate being an artist less with places and more with moments; 10 minutes here, 30 minutes there. Big thoughts and best laid plans. Little bursts of energy in my weekly routine. I feel more like an artist on the bus than almost anywhere else. Bus seats are the paintings I get to see all the time. I like to incorporate the objects that hold my fascination directly in my work, as playful surfaces for my innermost thoughts, ideas, confessions…I’ve found inspiration over the years from lots of other places outside of the art world that scratch my creative itch in a similar way. Construction. Cake decorating. Home decor. Sometimes a trip to IKEA feels more creatively fulfilling than a gallery visit. Or maybe that’s just the meatballs talking. ds "
